Yesterday someone handed me a broken bottle opener. Today I am teaching myself to forge bottle openers out of old saw teeth. The first one I made too thin, it works but being that thin makes it feel flimsy. The second one I went too thin the other direction and it broke but I learned how to punch the tab better. For the third I made two new drift punches and switched to a smaller hammer at the end. It has a slight lean but it looks good and it works well. It was important to me to keep the look of the saw tooth so that the user can feel the history of it. And well… it just fits that Northwoods vibe.
(The second pic is how the saw teeth fit in the 54” blade at the sawmill.)

Call me old fashioned. Many wouldn’t agree, I do have a kiln but I prefer to do it this way. I do however still verify with a hardness tester.

Curly maple, coarse natural micarta, turquoise stacked on a black G10 liner. These (already spoken for) along with a handful of hunting knives are going to @themadbaer this weekend.

It’s been a busy autumn. Between prepping for winter, kids school and hunting there isn’t much more time in the day besides eating and sleeping. Ducks have become pretty important in our lives. I’m thankful to live in an area so abundant with them.

Just a work in progress shot of something I’ve been working on. I think it’s still got a few revisions and some problem solving to be done but it looks good from here.

Forging this knife to finish as close as a can. Towards the end when it got more thin, I switched to a body work hammer and had good success keeping a thin, even finish.

I get requests to turn something into a knife that isn’t always the best steel. Sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn’t. This one will make an OK knife. It won’t be anything to write home about performance wise but it has a cool history. 🚂🔥💪🔪

The Upper Peninsula of Michigan is well known for its copper. Now you can scoop your coffee with it.

Ok. I got to be real. #4 has the feels…
Still some work to do but I think this one might end up in the line up.

This sheath turned out to be a bit of a head scratcher but I got it done. Fold over deep pocket sheath that can double as an inverted neck knife config. And the @ulticlip is removable. Knife is a Bird & Trout style in AEB-L. Thanks to Mr. Webster Marble for the inspiration . Backdrop provided by a beautiful day outside, don’t miss it…
